Project:

LEGO Education Rebuild the World through Purposeful Play

Type:

Animation

As creators, each of us has a memory of that inspirational spark leading us down a creative path of pushing the boundaries and converting failure into opportunity. For some, LEGOs are that flame. So when we were asked to tell the story of Hannah, a creative, confident, and resilient young girl who loves to build and uses LEGO Education lessons to change the world, we leapt at the opportunity.

Through a mixture of 2D animation and CG LEGO renderings, we follow Hannah at school and home, persevering through failure and immersing herself in her goals. Small acts of fearlessness carving a path for a larger impact on her journey to rebuild the world in an extraordinary way.

The details of the illustrative style were essential to ensure Hannah’s vibrant personality came through in a minimal style. We utilized expression sheets and character lineups to visualize the growth of Hannah in different stages of her life.

Process

Each LEGO build began with a sketch to allow total creative freedom. From there, we added dimension and scale in CG, and finally, animation and functionality accuracy through practical LEGO builds and drop tests.
